Cobourg

The waterfront community of Cobourg is the largest in Northumberland County. Known for its sandy beach and marina, it is an ideal location for retirees and families looking to be close to amenities such as the hospital and VIA station. Even with a population of 19,440, Cobourg has maintained its small-town atmosphere. This is partly due to the well-preserved traditional main street and the surrounding residential Heritage Conservation District. Part of Cobourg’s heritage includes silent film actress Marie Dressler, the 1931 Academy Award winner for best actress, who was born in Cobourg to the organist of St. Peter’s Anglican Church. As well as its historic and lively downtown, Cobourg has a multitude of beautiful, well-maintained parks, which play host to festivals and events throughout the year, such as; the Cobourg Waterfront Festival, as well as Cobourg’s oldest annual event, the Cobourg Highland Games.
